Chamomile For Inflammatory Bowel Disease

The prevalence of the inflammatory bowel disease In the United States of America is 1 to 10 to every 100000 people and there are more than one million citizens suffer from the disease. It is a chronic disease and it is the main intestinal inflammatory disease in the developed countries.

The question is; what is the inflammatory bowel disease? and the answer is; it is a disease of the large or small intestines due to inflammation usually without known reason. There are two types, the first is crohn`s disease and the second is ulcerative colitis.

Males and females are equally affected especially adolescents and young adults between fifteen and twenty five.

Genetic factors, stress and cigarette smoking are playing an important role especially in crohn`s disease than in ulcerative colitis. Environmental elements, pollution, the quality of modern food and stressful life style are the main risk factors.

The main disease symptoms are:
weight loss, sudden exacerbation, low grade and unnoticed fever, loose stool, right sided pain especially in the abdomen, blood in stool or bright loose stool, lower abdominal pain, fatigue, easy tiredness, nausea and vomiting.

What is the natural treatment for inflammatory bowel disease?
Chamomile is the best herbal treatment; its common names are chamomile and german chamomile.
Its latin names are matricaria recutita and anthemis nobilis.

The herb is used successfully and widely for thousands of years to treat diseases, and it is very effective in the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease and all age groups are treated successfully with chamomile.

How to use chamomile?
Chamomile is used as bag tea, home made tea, capsules, tablets, tincture or ointment.

You can prepare the bag tea by boiling one spoon of the Chamomile flowers or one bag (about 2-3 grams) into a cup of water for 3 to 5 minutes three times daily. You can prepare a home made Tea by boiling 15 grams of the Chamomile flowers into one pint of water for 15 minutes 2 times daily.

Chamomile is generally safe and its side effects are very rare. It is used also to treat various diseases such as: insomnia, anxiety, abdominal colic, Diarrhea and eczema. You can use it safely for insomnia and mild symptoms. You must ask your doctor about using any herbs.
